The information about abamectin efficacy in cases of feline aelurostrongylosis is scarce. Six naturally infected cats were treated with combination of abamectin and praziquantel every seven days until two consecutive negative faecal test results. Abamectin was administered at a dose rate of 0.1 mg/kg. For the evaluation of the efficacy, the number of larvae per gram (LPG) was assessed 30 and 60 days after the first treatment by the Baermann’s technique. After the first 4 administrations, a rapid decline in LPG was observed and after the 8^th administration, all animals were free of A. abstrusus larvae. Although the results affirm that abamectin may be successfully used in cases of aelurostrogylosis in cats, further clinical studies are needed to validate this pilot investigation.

Информацията за ефикасността на абамектин при котешка елуростронгилоза е оскъдна. Шест естествено заразени котки бяха третирани с комбинация от абамектин и празиквантел на всеки седем дни до два последователни отрицателни резултата от фекален тест. Абамектин се прилагаше в доза от 0,1 mg/kg. За оценка на ефикасността, броят на ларвите на грам (LPG) беше оценен 30 и 60 дни след първото третиране по техниката на Baermann. След първите 4 приложения, се наблюдаваше бързо намаляване на LPG, а след 8-то приложение всички животни бяха свободни от ларви на A. abstrusus. Въпреки че резултатите потвърждават, че абамектин може да се използва успешно в случаи на елурострогилоза при котки, допълнителни клинични проучвания са необходими за валидиране на това пилотно изследване.
